Introduction

The purpose of this document is to provide all members of Sturmgrenadier (SG) with a clear, in-depth explanation of Sturmgrenadier rules and policies. Upon joining Sturmgrenadier, members acknowledge and agree to operate within the bounds set forth by this document as provided for in their subscription agreement. This document encompasses the operations of both the normal member and the Command member. Sturmgrenadier Syndicate Command reserves the right to alter and/or change this document at any time; members should always be familiar with the basic tenets of this document.

While the document covers most situations that may arise it is not meant to be an end-all be-all document that covers every possible scenario. Given this, Syndicate Command has the final say in all decisions as it relates to the operation of Sturmgrenadier regardless of what is written in this document.

Sturmgrenadier is a unique online gaming community with a structure modeled closely to that of a real-life military unit or successful corporation. Inherent with such discipline, Sturmgrenadier places more than the usual amount of demands on its members. The success of Sturmgrenadier lies within members' dedication to this Charter, mutual respect of each other, and the decisive execution of orders.

Chain of Command

Sturmgrenadier (SG) has a well defined Chain of Command that must be followed at all times. The following represents the general structure of SG.

Sturmgrenadier Rank Structure

The Sociables Various Designations
  • The numbers in brackets represent the chain or order of command with [0] being at the top and [9] being at the bottom. The numbers between [4] and [8] are to be used for per-portal ranking.
  • When you have an opinion or idea you want considered by SG properly you are to take the opinion or idea to the next highest officer rank above your own. For example, if you are a Member and are not an Officer, you would first go to a rank [7] officer if available with your idea or opinion.
  • When you approach an Officer in the chain of command it is to be done privately and never in front of anyone else unless the others present are a higher rank than the officer you are approaching.
  • If you have an issue directly with the chain of command you may skip to the next highest level in the chain. For example, if you are a member and your issue is with the rank [7] officer then you may go to the next available rank [6] officer to voice your issue.
  • If you feel your opinion or idea is not addressed sufficiently you may move it up the chain of command until such time you are satisfied. Be forewarned though that skipping the chain of command is not an action that Syndicate takes lightly and you may not like the resulting decision or action. Skipping the chain of command should only happen in extreme situations.
  • If your Primary Portal uses rank designations other than what is described above for your Portal Command you should reference your Game Charter for an explanation on how the chain of command works within your portal.
  • Syndicate Command is the highest level of command in across all Portals in Sturmgrenadier and has the ultimate say in all matters. The SG CEO has the highest rank in all of SG and has the final say in Syndicate rulings.

Voice Communications

  • Members, including Portal Command Staff in Sturmgrenadier shall always be logged into SG's voice communication system with a working microphone and headset when actively playing in a game SG operates in.
  • Members of Sturmgrenadier, who "lone-wolf", shall not utilize SG communication assets nor operate in the same area as members who are actively engaged in normal SG operations in normal operational areas.
  • Members that are present in SG operational areas are expected to be on the voice server and actively engaged in the group, with exceptions only granted prior to the event by Portal Command staff.

Non-Primary Portals

  • Members are allowed to operate in multiple SG portals assuming the portal they wish to operate in allows such activity.

  • Portal Commanders are expected to know the Primary Portal requirements for every portal in SG.
  • Portal Commanders must make other Portal Commanders aware of any Primary Portal changes made to their Game Charter and will not expect other Portal Commanders to understand the changes without direct education on the change.
  • Portal Commanders must make their Primary Portal members aware of any Primary Portal requirements changes made to their Game Charter and will not expect their Primary Portal members to understand the changes without direct education on the change.

The Sociables

  • Sociables members are SG members in every sense of the word but must abide by the rules set forth in this section specifically and the Charter as a whole.
  • Members may switch their Primary Portal to Sociables if they find themselves not wanting to play in any game SG operates a portal in or if their Primary Portal game is removed as a official portal in SG.
  • Members may only set their Primary Portal to The Sociables if they maintained the required activity level in a single Primary Portal (except The Sociables) for at least 3 consecutive months prior to joining The Sociables. This timer resets once they join The Sociables. Syndicate may approve exceptions to this on a case-by-case or portal-by-portal basis.
  • Members may only choose The Sociables as their Primary Portal if their current Portal Commander is aware of the change and they have used the appropriate Check-Out procedures for their Primary Portal.
  • Sociables members may NOT post anything remotely negative, controversial, or thought provoking about SG games as a representative of SG. This includes SG forums and forums for SG games.

  • All infractions shall be reviewed by the Command Staff.
  • Forum infractions that are not gross violations of the Charter shall be worked out between the offender and person(s) offended unless Command Staff chooses otherwise. If the problem is not resolved, Command Staff may step in to resolve it. This clause does NOT allow for people to use the forums to resolve problems. All problems are to be resolved in private.

  • Incidents are to be kept private and between the member and Command Staff only; open discussion in non-Command forums is prohibited unless deemed appropriate by the Command Staff.

  • In-Game Clan/Guild Rights Change – The member may have their in-game rights modified permanently or for a period of time.

Administrative Procedures

Leaves of Absence

  • Sturmgrenadier relies upon having an active member base to uphold and maintain all aspects of Sturmgrenadier Gaming Syndicate's operation. Members are expected to maintain at least a minimum amount of activity in order to maintain their membership within a Sturmgrenadier Portal. At the same time, Sturmgrenadier recognizes the fact that "real life" takes precedence of ANY online activity.
  • Members must meet the requirements of their Primary Portal to maintain membership in SG. Members of the Sociables must meet the rules specified in the Sociables section of this document to maintain membership in SG.
  • Members are expected to notify their immediate commander of any need to depart Sturmgrenadier permanently so that rosters may be updated. See next section.
  • Members who depart temporarily for military or business reasons need only to email/PM their commander in order to preserve their standing within their Portal.

Member Removal or Voluntary Departure

  • From time to time, members must be removed from their assigned Sturmgrenadier Portal. The reasons vary from disciplinary to administrative. Whatever the reason, it is done to ensure the security and well-being of Sturmgrenadier, the Portal, and its members.
  • Members failing to meet the activity requirements of their Primary Portal must be unassigned for security reasons, with or without notice. The member will be placed in "inactive" status. SG is a team operation and requires every member to maintain an active presence in SG.
  • Members who formally "resign" from SG forfeit any time remaining on their active subscription; all non-public access to Sturmgrenadier access will be terminated. If the member wishes to return to Sturmgrenadier, a new subscription will need to be created, without the option of a free trial period.
  • All members who are set as "inactive" lose voice and most forum privileges as determined by Syndicate for security reasons.
  • Members removed for disciplinary reasons forfeit all benefits and subscriptions to Sturmgrenadier.
  • Members may be banned, via IP and other means, if Syndicate deems it necessary.
  • Members who wish to leave a portal should notify their Portal Command Staff via PM's or in-game voice. They should also utilize "Check-Out Here" threads if available. Goodbye and farewell posts will be removed by Portal Command as soon as they are noticed. Feel free to tell squad members you are leaving a portal in private, but do not utilize the forums to do so.
  • Members who leave a portal SG is active in to join another clan/guild forfeit their entire SG membership for all SG portals.

Communications

  • Sturmgrenadier "communication assets" include the voice server, the SG forums, plus any other officially sanctioned means of SG communications. Members are expected to utilize communication assets fully when participating in SG operations. Command Staff has jurisdiction over all means of SG communications where applicable.
  • Unauthorized users are to be removed from SG Comms Assets upon discovery.
  • Members NOT participating in SG operations yet still utilizing SG Comms Assets are to be removed immediately from said assets and possibly from SG as a whole.
  • All SG Members are required to have a fully functional headset and/or microphone (headset highly recommended) to participate in voice communications. There are NO exceptions.
  • Sturmgrenadier members are to use officially sanctioned callsigns and insignia, where used, in all SG Comms Assets.
  • Access information to SG Comms Assets are top-secret and are not to be shared with any non-SG member under ANY circumstances.

Game/Forum Name Convention

  • Sturmgrenadier members are required to have a Sturmgrenadier forum name that closely matches their in-game name. Having the same name in-game and out facilitates tracking of Time-In-Grade promotions and benefits unit cohesion/camaraderie. From time to time a member finds themselves in need of changing their in-game name in order to conform to a particular game's naming convention.
  • Attaching a number to the end of the member's in-game name (Joeplayer----->Joeplayer1) usually solves the problem and is an acceptable practice. When simple additions to the name are impractical and a complete change is required, the following must occur:
  • The member MUST NOT register a new forum name, if they already posses one, under any circumstances. Forum access privileges will be adversely affected.
  • The member must submit a name change request via their Subscription Management area. This feature is NOT available to non-SG members.
  • The member must submit a new Voice Registration Request from their Subscription Management area. The old name will be deleted upon activation of the new name.
  • The member must notify their immediate commander of the change in order to ensure TIG rank tracking or other records are properly updated.
  • Regular, repeated name changes are prohibited. Carefully consideration of any name changes should be made before proceeding.
  • Members who hold dual gaming accounts and utilize them in squad operations must name their extra accounts in a fashion that clearly identifies the relationship to the member (use numbers- Joeplayer, Joeplayer1 (second account). Forum registration of the extra accounts is not advised; you will be required to start a new subscription for the second name.

Forum Signature Guidelines

  • There is a specific way in which you display your awards and personal image in your forum signature; here is the exact order your SG signature must follow if you use one:
  • Your name, rank and office (if you have one) (text).
  • One personal image, not larger than 450x150 (optional). Special generated signatures may be allowed on a per portal basis if Syndicate approves the requested exception.
  • Personal quote (if you use one).
  • SG Official Rank Ribbons (Approved by Syndicate and Portal Command).
  • The total signature block/area including all text and images should not exceed 450x400 pixels. This does not include the SG Official Ribbons.
  • Signatures with excessive information or statements not endorsed by SG may be edited without warning by Administrators. Only use the most active and relevant information necessary. The signature area is not a space to put list every game you have ever played or your personal opinions.
  • Signatures shall not contain annoying animated images.

Returning Members

  • Members who have left SG voluntarily in the past on good terms and wish to return should fill out a new membership application with their existing user id (forum name) and put into the notes that they are a returning member and why they wish to return. Assuming there were no negative reasons for the previous departure, returning members have a chance to get back into SG. Typically the answer for the returning member can take 2-4 weeks as Syndicate Staff have to meet to approve all returns.
  • Members returning will be set to the lowest rank allowed in a Portal and may have a higher rank re-instated if the Portal Commander of the forum deems it necessary.
  • Members who left SG involuntarily (were kicked,) or on bad terms must PM a member of Syndicate Command Staff with their intentions to return to SG. Once this process is initiated by the former member Syndicate Command will process the request within 4-6 weeks and get back to the former member with an answer. This is a long process as history of the member must be researched, interviews must be completed with current SG members who the member may have issues with, portal command must weigh in, and then finally, the Syndicate Staff must process all of the collected information and reach a conclusion that is for the good of all SG (not just the would-be-returning member.)

New and Future Portals

Sturmgrenadier may add Future and New Portals to the Syndicate from time to time. If you are interested in forming a portal for a game or operating a SG Guild in a game, do the following:

  • All games to be considered as a home for SG should be brought to the attention of the SG CEO

  • New portals require a command staff (as explained above) to operate SG in the game. If you are interested in starting a portal, you need to have at minimum 6 dedicated officers interested in leading it.

  • New portals require members! To be considered for portal status, ask yourself this question “Will there be 20 SG on most nights after 6 months, playing this game?” If the answer is no, then the portal should not be considered. If you are stepping up to lead the portal it will be expected of you to make the answer to this question a reality.

  • If you know of dedicated officers, and believe the game will have the required number of players after 6 months, then send the SG CEO a PM detailing your interest and details of why you think it will be successful.

  • The SG CEO will make the call on whether or not a game obtains Future or Portal Status. Some will be approved, some will not.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Why do I have to pay a membership fee to be in Sturmgrenadier? How much is it?

A. Sturmgrenadier prides itself in providing the very best in service for our members. We provide a professional-grade web server on which we host our voice communications, as well as gaming servers for our member's exclusive use- every SG member uses the server in one way or another. This equipment carries a significant cost with it and that cost is spread across the membership via membership fees. Membership fees also allow Sturmgrenadier to hold drawings and contests in which members can win various items. Membership in Sturmgrenadier only costs $12 a YEAR.

Q. What is the Sturmgrenadier Online Gaming Syndicate?

A. The Sturmgrenadier Online Gaming Syndicate is the umbrella under which each SG Portal operates.

Q. What is a Portal in Sturmgrenadier?

A. The Portals in Sturmgrenadier represent each of the games that SG participates in. Each Portal is fully staffed and has its own forum areas and website within the Sturmgrenadier Syndicate.

Q. If I decide to quit one SG Portal and move to another SG Portal, am I required to pay for a new membership?

A. No. As long as your membership is current, you may move laterally, to another Portal, as many times as you wish. Your paid membership to Sturmgrenadier is not Portal-dependent.

Q. What happens to my paid membership if I go inactive for whatever reason?

A. If you go inactive in your assigned Portal long enough, you may be removed from the Portal; however, your membership with SG will remain intact with basic Member's access to the forums (Sturmgrenadier Syndicate Members Only forum, read/reply access only); Voice access will be removed for security reasons. Your membership will remain active until it expires, at which point all access will be lost to Member Areas. Should you return to active status, you need only re-apply to your desired Portal to re-gain assignment.

Q. Can anyone join Sturmgrenadier?

A. Anyone is welcome to apply to any of Sturmgrenadier's Portals; however, actual entry into Sturmgrenadier is, by no means, guaranteed. SG is selective in its application review process and generally does not respond to public inquiries about reasons for denial.

Q. Can I copy your Charter and use it for my own squad/clan/guild?

A. No, this document belongs to Sturmgrenadier and was written by SG President, Lostlogic. It may not be copied or reproduced, in any way, without the express written permission of Sturmgrenadier. On that same note, all information contained within SG's web domains is either original work or that provided by game developers/publishers for use in game-relevant websites.
